The Intrigue rolled off Oldsmobile's assembly plant in Kansas City for 1998 to replace the Cutlass Supreme in the automaker's range of mid-size cars. With its generous equipment even in the base version (traction control, automatic dual-zone air conditioning, anti-lock brakes, etc), the Oldsmobile Intrigue could strongly compete with Japanese sedans like the Toyota Camry and Nissan Maxima. The model offered a hearty 3.8L 195-hp OHV V6, which was replaced with an all-new, more powerful 3.5L 215-hp DOHC counterpart for the 2000 model year. This upgrade in the standard powertrain made this 4-door sedan the most powerful W-body car in the base trim.
