Unveiled in May 1961, the Oldsmobile Cutlass was designed as a special sporty trim for the F85 series. Originally sold as a two-door deluxe coupe and powered by a 185-hp high-compression V-8, the Oldsmobile Cutlass provided top performance, offering as well a comfortable cruise within a roomy and well-refined interior. The second series Cutlass, launched in 1964, was again a sport version of the F85, being available as a 2- door coupe, hard-top, or convertible. With the third generation appearing in 1967, the Oldsmobile Cutlass was sold as a separate model, becoming one of the most popular Oldsmobiles ever. Starting from 1976, however, the label Cutlass was used to badge the entry level of different models. In 1999, the Cutlass name was dropped.
