In 1903 the Wright brothers, Wilbur and Orvillle, use both Jersey Standard fuel and Mobiloil (Vacuum) lubricants for their historic first flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Mobil celebrates 100 years since the founding of the Vacuum Oil Company in 1866 and changes its name to Mobil Oil Corporation. In 1915 Ralph De Palma, winner of the Indianapolis 500, is the first of many Indy winners to use Mobil products. His average speed: 89.84 mph.

The history of Mobil 1 in motorsports dates back to the early 1970s, competing in rallying; however our involvement in racing became more official in 1978 through sponsorship of the Williams Formula 1™ team and the 1987 sponsorship of Rusty Wallace’s No. 27 car in NASCAR®. From that time, the presence of Mobil 1 on race tracks and circuits has grown by global proportions. Forty years ago, company introduced Mobil 1™ motor oil to the marketplace, making it the first globally available fully synthetic automotive motor oil. Though it was originally released to safely enhance fuel efficiency, later formulations of Mobil 1 motor oil offered outstanding wear protection over the widest range of temperatures. In 2007, Mobil 1™ synthetic engine oil selected as the factory fill oil for all 2008 Cadillac Escalade and DTS models, making Mobil 1 oil standard in every new 2008 Cadillac vehicle that rolls off the production line.
