“Marauder” is one of the repeating words in the history of the Mercury make. After the introduction of Mercury's own 6.3-liter Marauder V8 engine back in the late 50's, its 7.0-liter version set the horsepower record at 400. The success inspired to name the 1963 model the Mercury Marauder. This full-size hardtop/sedan with a sloping notchback roof had various engines and was obviously performance-oriented. By 1969, however, a trim split occurred after a four-year gap. The regular trim was redirected for personal luxury segment, whereas the bucket seats, a 7.0-liter engine (360 hp at output) and C6 automatic transmission became part of the Marauder X-100 trim. The 2003 revival, now as a 4-door sedan on the Panther platform, saw major improvements with chassis and suspension, making the sequel worthy of the original.
