The industry standard in high-efficiency lighting is quartz-halogen bulbs. These high-tech bulbs use a combination of pressurized gases inside the bulb to scavenge evaporated tungsten from the inside of the glass envelope, allowing the filament to be operated at much higher, more efficient temperature, providing a brighter, whiter light. This in turn requires a higher-temperature rated quartz glass. These bulbs provide a much more consistent output over their lifespan than conventional tungsten bulbs, which grow progressively dimmer as they age. They also provide more lumens per watt, an issue when you're running a lot of lights at the same time to prevent overloading the alternator and battery.

We always recommend adding a relay to provide full battery voltage to any add-on lights, or the lights may not provide full illumination because of the voltage drop from marginal factory wiring. Not to mention the possibility of burning out the factory harness. Installing this relay and harness is simple and only takes a few minutes.
