The Cherokee is a compact SUV with a hearty engine and transmission to carry you about all your daily tasks, get you to the cottage on the weekend, and even tow a nice-sized trailer. Your Jeep Cherokee utilizes fuel injection technology that sends fuel to the engine, starting with an in-tank fuel pump which pushes the fuel through a fuel filter, before entering the pressurized fuel rail located on your engine's intake manifold, supplying the injectors with fuel as they need it. Your vehicle's ECU (Engine Controller Unit) uses a MAP sensor to send it feedback about how the engine is running, telling it how much fuel your engine needs.
It's inevitable that certain parts of your fuel system will need to be replaced eventually. Parts like the fuel pump will fail after years of service and/or hundreds of thousands of miles. If it's time to replace your fuel pump: Replace, Bosch, and Pilot have you covered with new and remanufactured fuel pumps that are every bit as good as OEM Mopar brand parts. The fuel filter needs to be replaced every 12,000 miles, or once per year (whichever comes first.) Vaico and Mann brand fuel filters will keep your vehicle running right, protecting your engine from contaminants and the fuel pump from failing unnecessarily.
