Iwis was founded in 1916 by Bavarian businessman Johann Baptist Winklhofer. He casually referred to the launch of his first product, a high-performance precision chain bearing the J.W.I.S. (Joh. Winklhofer & Söhne) brand. What began with a humble bicycle chain rapidly grew into a successful family business, and eventually into the Iwis Group, a global technology leader in high-quality automotive and industrial chains.

Since they primarily relate to drive and control functions, the products Iwis makes literally help to move the world.
