The Honda Insight a hybrid electric vehicle that was manufactured from 1999 up to 2006 (first generation) as a subcompact three-door two-seat hatchback, and as a compact five-door hatchback from 2008 through 2014. Both generations were using a front-mounted engine and a front-wheel drive system. As for the hybrid's powertrain, the first-generation cars had a 1.0L I3 engine with 67 hp combined with a 144 V 10 kW electric motor with 13 hp. These engine and motor were teamed with a five-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission. The second-generation Insight was released with a 1.3L power unit rated at 98 hp and combined with the same electric motor. Both were geared through a CVT automatic only. Being the first hybrid car marketed in North America, the Honda Insight was a low-emission, highly fuel efficient vehicle.
