The Honda Del Sol first showed up on the world’s marketplace in 1992, and debuted in the U.S. in 1993. The model was built on the Civics’ platform and this genetic relation traced in its name. Initially the car had the Honda Civic Del Sol name. However, in 1995 the Civic tag was dropped in the USA and the car received the Del Sol name. The Honda Del Sol had 2 seats, front-wheel-drive configuration, front engine layout, and a great unconventional design with Targa top. In fact, the Spanish name Del Sol was chosen because it means “of the sun” and refers to the car's opening roof. This model was not a full convertible, featuring a removable hardtop that could be stowed in the trunk and a retractable rear window that provided a “convertible feel”. The Del Sol offered solid performance and top-notch handling.
