The production of the GMC Jimmy was launched in 1973. This full-size sport utility vehicle offered a single option of body style – a two-door station wagon. The GMC Jimmy featured either a four-wheel or a rear-wheel drive layout. The selection of engines included both gasoline (from 4.1L I6 to 6.6L V8) and diesel (6.2L V8) options. The motor of the GMC Jimmy was mated to an automatic (three-speed TH-3450, three-speed TH-400 or four-speed 700-R4) or a manual (four-speed SM465) transmission. The tailgate of the GMC Jimmy featured the safety switch, which was connected to an electric motor – this mechanism was developed in order to prevent a rear window from involuntary raising in case the tailgate of the SUV was unlatched. The production of this model came to an end in 1991.
