The GMC G-Series was a "long-lived" van, introduced in 1963 and produced for more than 30 years, making the G-Series an active witness of our contemporary history. The first two generations featured a flat "face" and the driver position above the front axle, while the engine was placed between and behind the front seats. With the third generation, introduced in 1971, the GMC G-Series received major restyling: the "cab over" configuration was dropped, the engine was moved forward, and the G-Series received a short hood. Several improvement followed until 1995, when the new restyled model was named the GMC Vandura being finally dropped one year later.
