The Ford Transit history dates back to 1953 when the first vans related to this range were built in Ford’s plant in Germany. However, Transit name first appeared in late 1959 and the first Transit was presented to the public in 1965. The family of these light commercial vehicles consisted of six major versions with carrying capacity from 600 to 1750 kg. The biggest was a passenger van which seated up to 15 passengers and featured dual rear tires and a high roof. The abundance of the Transit body styles, frames, chassis, cabs boggled the imagination of buyers. For instance, an ordinary van had 18 variations of doors. Under the Ford Transit name over a seven million units have been produced, mostly cargo vans, however, Transits were also offered as passenger vans, pickup trucks, minivans. One of the most expensive Transits was the stretch-style van Transit XXL created to celebrate the 2007 International Van of the Year award.
