Ford used the Ranger nameplate on its three different models since 1965. Originally, it was a special package offered for the F-Series. However, in 1982 Ford decided to launch the Ranger as a freestanding model to expand its presence in the compact pickup truck market segment. In 1998, the Ranger became an international model, after entering certain South American and African markets. However, being a rebadged Mazda’s B-Series, the international Ranger had almost nothing to share with its North American cousin. In 2011, Ford discontinued the North American model. Instead, the company has independently developed and introduced the all-new international Ranger that went on sale in 2011.
