There were rumors that the Ford Maverick was originally intended to be either a Mustang replacement or, at least, the newest restyling of the Mustang. However, the Maverick became a replacement for the Ford Falcon, whose sales were influenced by the introduction of the Mustang in 1964. The Maverick made its debut in 1970 and from the beginning was offered only in the standard coupe body. In 1971 it was complemented with a four-door sedan, and later a rare station wagon version of the Maverick was presented in Brazil. The 1971 Maverick was featured in Brazil scenes of the Fast Five movie, driven by Han. The Maverick also offered several sporty models with special trim packages, graphics, and paints.
