The Ford GT (GT40) was a mid-engine racing car developed in the early 1960s for participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans enduring race. Featuring progressive chassis design and multiple advanced engineering solutions implemented in the suspension and powertrain construction, the GT turned out to be exceptionally powerful racecar that finally managed to beat the opponents from Ferrari dominating in the series for six years in a row. Known as the GT (Grand Touring), the model was commonly known as the GT40 with the numerical part standing for the overall height of the car in inches. The total number of the original GTs manufactured during its 5-year-long run is only 107 units. In 2004, Ford revived the nameplate on its newly-developed supercar.
