The Granada nameplate was applied by Ford on vehicles issued for both European and North American markets from the early 1970s up to the late 1990s. Despite featuring the similar nameplate, the two were different either, mechanically and externally. The North American model was available in two generations that were in production from 1975 to 1980, and from 1980 to 1982 respectively. Differing mechanically and externally, the first and the second generation also occupied different market places. While the first one was a compact car introduced along with its rebadged twins, the Mercury Monarch and Lincoln Versailles, as a replacement to the reasonably-priced Maverick, the second-generation Granada was a mid-size luxury car based on the newly-developed Fox platform. In 1982 the model was replaced by the LTD line that was just shifted from the full-size class downwards.
