Ford Focus Throttle Bodies

One of the main parts of your Ford Focus' powerplant, which directly influences engine performance, is a throttle body. As is the case with most other gasoline-fed units, the power of your car's engine depends on the amount of air passing through this part, the right measurement of this amount, and the absence of air leaks. Most throttle bodies installed on fuel-injected motors have a throttle position sensor (TPS), idle valve, and other mechanical or electronic devices like a mass airflow sensor (MAF), air temperature sensor, or thermal plunger sensing the coolant and keeping the choke slightly open when the engine is cold, to make its start easier.

Some of these parts can be integrated with each other, like a MAF and air temp sensor, others come separately, but in each case, all of them are about precision. Oil and soot that may come from the positive crankcase ventilation system or exhaust gas recirculation valve may seriously contaminate the throttle body in the long run, so you may need to take off, disassemble, and clean it, with the replacement of some gaskets and other parts.
