A full-size car, the Ford Fairlane appeared in 1955. Named after Henry Ford’s estate, Fair Lane, that is located near Dearborn, Michigan, the car came to expand the brand’s presence in the North American full-size cars market segment. By 1962, when the model moved to the mid-size class, the Fairlane became a strong seller to the company. From 1962 and up to the model’s discontinuation in 1970, the Fairlane was a player in a mid-size market niche, growing in the popularity and attracting new customers to Ford’s offerings. Subsequently, the model was replaced by the new Torino that debuted in 1970.
