Fluids under high pressure, including fuel, brake fluid, coolant, transmission fluid and power steering fluid, are routed to components throughout a typical vehicle. The OE metal and rubber lines and hoses, and standard fittings are perfectly adequate for conducting these fluids on a production vehicle, but not up to the task for a purpose-built race car. Machines used in competition need lines, hoses, and fittings that can withstand grueling racing conditions without leaking, because fluid leaks can cause fires and create unsafe driving conditions when that fluid ends up on the track surface. Racing lines and hoses must also be available in sizes that can deliver the increased fuel quantities required by a typical racing engine. Finally, because lines and hoses are routinely disconnected when the car is worked on between races or between rounds, fittings that can easily be disconnected and connected are necessary. Bright stainless steel braided hose connected with colorful anodized aluminum AN fittings are as much a part of racing as slicks and helmets. Many components like racing spec fuel pumps, filters, and regulators are designed for AN fittings, so they can’t even be connected into the fuel system without a corresponding change to lines and hoses designed for these connections. Performance lines, hoses and fittings are designed to function under high pressures and temperatures, and many racing organizations specify their use. But racing hoses don’t necessarily have to have a braided steel exterior. All racing hoses have an interior liner typically constructed of extruded CPE (Chlorinated Polyethylene) rubber or PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) commonly known as Teflon, with an abrasion-resistant protective exterior of nylon fiber braid, Kevlar, or multi-wire stainless steel braid.

AN thread fittings were developed by the military during World War II; in fact, AN stands for Army and Navy because the 37º flare and sizes ranging from -2 to -32 (1/8” to 2” hose I.D.), were a joint standard created by both branches. But while the flared ends are the same, the way fittings attach to hoses varies. The traditional method of attachment for braided steel is a socket that slips over the hose end and the fitting threads into the hose and socket. Some hoses use a push-on fitting that fits inside of a collar that is crimped onto the hose, while other fittings are twisted on and have barbs for retention in the hose. There are straight, 45º, 90º, and 180º fittings as well as T-fittings, adapters, and quick-disconnect fittings.

We offer hose that is compatible with all fluid types including ethanol blend fuels, racing gas, alcohol, and diesel, in configurations that meet the fuel line rules and regulations of most racing organizations. Hose comes in bulk lengths that must be cut for custom fitment, and there are also pre-made hose and fitting assemblies for select production based vehicle applications. Our fittings come nickel plated and in a range of anodized color finishes.
