When the column-mounted shift lever on certain Dodge and Ram trucks becomes sloppy or inoperable, it's typically because the original equipment shift bracket connecting the lever to the shift cable has lost its grip on the shifter arm or completely failed. The factory bracket is made from soft cast aluminum and relies on just a single bolt to secure the shift lever.
