It was a transverse front engine, front-wheel drive layout vehicle with a 2-door coupe and a 4-door sedan body style. The Neon was offered with a 1.8L I4 and two different variants of a 2.0L I4 with power being transferred to the front wheels by either a 5-speed manual or a 4 or 5-speed automatic transmission.
