The nameplate Nova was originally used for the top of the line Chevrolet Chevy II, introduced in 1962. It was an elegant compact car offered in three series: 100, 300, and Nova, the most luxurious and capable among them. With the second generation, unveiled in 1966, the Chevrolet Nova was also available in the Super Sport package, powered by a 5.3 liter V8 engine providing an amazing output of 350 HP. In 1968, the Chevy II Nova was restyled, borrowing styling and mechanicals from the Chevrolet Camaro; in 1969, the badge Chevy II was dropped and the series was just named the Chevrolet Nova until 1979, when the model was eventually discontinued. In 1984, the badge revived introducing a subcompact car developed in a joint venture by Chevrolet and Toyota. Actually, the new Chevrolet Nova was the rebadged Toyota Sprinter, its production went on up to 1988.
