Champ Pans was founded in 1982 by Jerry Redetzke in Wisconsin. At that time, the company was called JR. Manufacturing and was actually run from a work space of 10×20 sq. ft. Racing teams needed quality oil pans at an affordable price, and Champ oil pans were just the right bang for the buck. As demand was on the rise, so was the range of performance components that today includes everything from oil pans to chassis brackets.

The company's customer base ranges from professional race teams to grassroots racers. Champ Pans proactively supports USMTS, WISSOTA, and IMCA sanctioning organizations. The company’s philosophy was always focused on manufacturing high-quality performance parts at affordable prices. They offer components for use in street, strip, circle track, road race, off-road, and marine applications. Over 1,000 products are present in the Champ racing catalog.

Champ Pans is a family-owned company, which is run by Redetzke's sons, well-known dirt track racers. Those many racing laps turned in by the racers in the Redetzke family have not only led to multiple winnings and awards, but also to a lot of valuable information the company uses to manufacture the finest oil pans in the industry. The information gained is used to develop new oil pan types and make modifications to existing oil pans. Oil pans by Champ are manufactured using 16-gauge cold-rolled steel to withstand the tough conditions that the engine is put through. A clear anti-corrosive zinc coating is applied for a lasting finish on steel oil pans. Aluminum oil pans are built from .100" for high durability. All of the company's oil pans are produced on their own equipment in-house, in the United States, so the quality is controlled from the raw materials to the final part.
