The Cadillac XLR was unveiled at the 2003 Detroit Motor Show. It was built at the GM’s Y-platform, sharing it with the Chevy Corvette C5. The XLR became the second roadster marketed with the Cadillac badge, and the first one to have a power-retractable aluminum hardtop. The auto was powered by either a 4,6L Northstar V8 or a tuned 4.4L Northstar SC V8 power unit, that could be coupled with either a 5-speed or a 6-speed transmission, both automatic. In 2004, the model was nominated for the North American Car of the Year award. The last cars rolled off the factory line in 2009.
