The Deville was originally used as a trim level on Cadillac cars in the 50s. Since 1959, the Deville nameplate was applied to a separate model. The first generation of the Deville is notable for huge tailfins with dual bullet tail lights that make the car a collector's item nowadays. The model was in production up to 2005 through eight generations. During its lifespan, the Deville had a number of siblings that were marketed under other General Motors brands, namely Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Chevrolet and were positioned as entry level or mid-trim models. In 2005, the Deville nameplate was phased out in favor of the DTS, an acronym for Deville Touring Sedan.
