You’ve probably been to a classic car show and heard someone exclaim “They don’t make them like that anymore!” While that statement may be true in terms of complete vehicles rolling off an assembly line, all you have to do is take a look at the many replacement chassis frame and body parts on this page and you’ll see that a large percentage of the content of classic and muscle cars are still being made – in fact, more so than ever before. Bolt on restoration parts like bumpers, grilles, moldings and trim have long been staples of reproduction parts suppliers, and that selection was fine when there was a plentiful supply of prospective restoration projects with solid frames and no-hit bodies. Crash damaged and heavily rusted cars were usually relegated to parts car status. But as the supply of classic and muscle cars has dwindled – and prices have escalated - restorers are taking a new look at cars that need more work, and the aftermarket has responded with the chassis frame and structural body parts needed for repairs.

To correct defects like rusted or bent frames, and “swiss cheese” body panels, used to mean buying parts cars and scouring swap meets in hopes of gaining useable parts. But the history of a used frame and/or body is usually unknown and the vehicle could have been in an accident, so you could still end up with a bent frame and panels full of body filler. Trying to straighten a collision damaged or rusted frame is only asking for problems. Even if the dimensions are only a little bit off parts won’t fit right and correct wheel alignment will be impossible. There could also be extensive corrosion damage inside frame members that goes undetected, and it would be unfortunate to base a restoration on such a foundation. CAD/CAM software, and modern tooling and manufacturing techniques are used in production to ensure dimensional accuracy, trophy winning quality and perfect fit and finish.
