Vehicles built after 2007 are required to be equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system, or TPMS. If you have a low tire pressure, a TPMS indicator will come on, which is a horseshoe-shaped light with an exclamation mark in the middle. Actually, this light is a small part of a big system designed to monitor your tire pressure and alert you when the tires have to be serviced. TPMS sensors are most commonly located within the tires. They send this information to special modules that are programmed for an acceptable pressure range.
Legislation requirements regarding TPMS are based on numerous safety hazards posed by underinflated tires. Such tires are prone to blowouts and cause a less stable ride. Unfortunately, TPMS sensors on the Audi A6 go bad quite commonly, making the warning light illuminate occasionally for no reason. In most cases, simple replacement helps. You don't need to go to the dealer and pay a high price for replacements. We have Audi A6 TPMS sensors that program exactly the same way as the factory ones and using the same tools where applicable.
