The Mercury Mariner is an entry level compact crossover SUV that was first introduced in 2005 and officially offered in the USA, Mexico, the UAE, and some other countries. Though created on the base of Mazda Tribute and Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner featured somewhat more prestigious parts than its siblings. The car was produced in four trim modifications: Base 4 cylinder, Base V6, Premier 4 cylinder and Premier V6 with the following available engines: 2.5l producing 171hp and 3.0l V6 producing 240 hp. The power plants were equipped with 6-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive was available in Luxury and Premier versions.

The Mercury Mariner Hybrid was brought to the market in 2006. Due to the fact that is was a 'full' hybrid, the car ensured maximum performance at all speeds. And the Hybrid's output of 155 hp made it nearly as efficient as the conventional Mariner that was equipped with a V6 and produced 200hp. In 2006 there was released 'A Presidential Edition' Mercury Mariner Hybrid for the ex-president Bill Clinton, and it included such parts as LED lighting, 110 volt outlet, rear bucket seats, personal DVD for each seat, rear seat fold-out writing desks, and a refrigerator.

Currently Mercury Mariners come off with a wide standard package, which comprises air-conditioning, privacy glass, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, full power accessories, and keyless entry. The Premier edition includes such accessories as parking sensors, leather or alcantara upholstery, power driver seat, climate control, CD changer, etc. The luxury package includes such accessories as navigation system, heated front seats, automated self-parking feature and a sunroof.
