In order to provide the necessary lubrication of inner engine parts, motor oil has to be under certain pressure that depends on the current RPMs. This pressure is needed for the oil to create a stable film on engine bearings, achieve the places located quite far from the sump, cool down the pistons, actuate chain tensioners, etc. An oil pump is a part responsible for this pressure, and if you want the engine of your Ford Focus to last long, the pump has to be in good condition.
