In 2005 the French car manufacturing company Citroen unveiled the Citroen C6, a model that entered mid-luxury segment of the company lineup. The 2.2L and 2.7L HDi engines, powered by 6-speed automatic transmission, were offered in base C6 and Executive trims from the beginning of 2009. Other optional Citroen C6 parts were sunroof, wi-fi and 3G connectivity, and Lounge Pack. Later in 2009 the 2.7L option was replaced with 3.0 V6 engine.

The innovative safety solutions, such as bonnet slightly popping up if a person or an animal is hit, allowed the C6 to get 4 stars in the EuroNCAP pedestrian crush-test. 2009 the same EuroNCAP awarded the C6 with the Europe's Safest Car title.
