After a 2-year hiatus in production, BMW launched the new generation of its Z4 roadster for 2020. It was developed in cooperation with Toyota and shares the platform and body style with its Supra sports car. The CLAR platform used by the 2020 BMW Z4 allows for notable weight savings of 110 lb compared to the previous generation. At the same time, the new model is roughly 3 inches longer than its predecessor and comes with a significantly larger trunk that now can carry almost 10 cu. ft. Besides, the newcomer features the same soft-top roof as the first-generation Z4 that raises and lowers in just 10 seconds at speeds up to 31 mph.

Like all of its predecessors, the 2020 BMW Z4 looks distinctive. Its oversized front end incorporates a well-known kidney grille, which is larger and lower now, and big air intakes. The headlights are located a bit higher now and feature LED bulbs. The rear end features well-recognized BMW design cues, coming with L-shaped taillights and an integrated spoiler. Nine exterior colors and two top colors are available. The new Z4 offers three engine options, with a 2.0 L turbo I4 making 197 hp as the base one. A more potent version of this engine good for 258 hp is available as an option; the top-of-the-line unit is a 3.0 L turbo I6 capable of 340 hp. Both engines deliver excellent fuel economy – the base one returns up to 47 mpg regardless of its power output, while an I6 provides up to 40 mpg. All variants of the vehicle employ an 8-speed automatic.

The interior of the 2020 BMW Z4 features model-specific sport seats positioned on longer rails and offering fore and aft electrical adjustment. The seats also have memory settings and integral head restraints. The new Z4 uses a 10.25” display teamed with the latest version of the corporate Operating System that offers navigation, voice controls, and smartphone integration. The car also comes with high-resolution instrument cluster placed behind the steering wheel and uses a special Remote Software Upgrade tool that ensures over-the-air updates of the software.
