In the base version, there are analog gauges and a center display that measures 8.8 inches, but stepping up to Live Cockpit Professional brings digital gauges and a 10.3-inch screen.

Three out of five powerplants of the new 1 Series provide diesel power and put out from 114 to 188 hp. The entry-level gasoline engine is a 1.5-liter turbo three capable of 140 hp. The top-of-the-line car is the M135i xDrive hot hatch equipped with a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo engine and all-wheel drive. The unit runs on 95-octane gas and churns out 302 horsepower, enough to hit 62 mph in 4.8 seconds. The transmission choices offered are manuals for the base trim levels and 7- and 8-speed Steptronic automatic gearboxes for range-topping models.
