For 2018, Mercedes unveiled the new trim level for their luxury 7-seater, the GLS Class. Named the Grand Edition, it is available for both GLS 450 and GLS 550 variants and offers a number of enhancements both inside and out. Exterior improvements include special badging and LED Intelligent Light System. The GLS 450 comes with 20” 10-spoke wheels, while the GLS 550 rides on larger 21” ones and features active LED headlights. The interior of the new grade offers more improvements – there are nappa leather seats featuring special piping and diamond quilting as well as a nappa leather dashboard. Besides, the interior features a special wood trim, velour floor mats, and ambient lighting. Apart from the new grade, there are only a few changes including additional 19” wheels for the GLS 450.

The 2018 Mercedes GLS Class employs three potent engines. The base GLS 450 comes with a 3.0 L twin-turbo V6 under the hood that can generate up to 362 hp. The GLS 550 utilizes a 4.7 L twin-turbo V8 rated at 449 hp, and the most potent version in the lineup, the AMG GLS 63, takes its power from a 5.5 L twin-turbo V8 that is capable of producing 577 hp. The engine power of the AMG-tuned model is directed through a 7-speed automatic, while other options are mated to a 9-speed automatic. The SUV provides decent fuel efficiency of up to 22 mpg. All models of the 2018 Mercedes GLS Class use the corporate AWD system (4Matic) and deliver towing capacity of up to 7,500 lb.

The base 2018 GLS 450 offers a wide range of standard features. It rides on 19” wheels and comes with a power liftgate, air suspension, LED tail lights and DRLs, power folding side mirrors, roof rails, and remote start and access. Inside, the model offers upscale vinyl upholstery, 8” central screen, wood trim, automatic climate control, heated front seats, and memory settings for the driver seat. On the tech front, the 2018 Mercedes GLS Class offers Bluetooth, rear-view camera, dual USB ports, 115V power outlet, HD radio, and premium sound system.
