With the 2018 Durango SRT, Dodge completely redefined the concept of a three-row SUV. No longer it is a bulky, practical, plush family hauler designed with comfort as the topmost priority. Instead, it is a 5,510-pound monster with a strong go-fast attitude, with almost 500 hp under its hood and a 0-60 time of a Mustang GT. Add in an aggressively tuned AWD system, sporty exhaust, cold air intake, and a bold performance-car-like stance and you’ll see why Dodge called it a three-row Charger. “America’s fastest, most powerful, and most capable three-row SUV” - that’s what Dodge claims the new Durango to be.
And a ferocious 6.4-liter Hemi V8 is the first thing to prove that’s not far from being true. It gives this fire-breathing SUV 475 horsepower, 0-60-mph time of 4.4 seconds, and towing capability rated at 8,600 pounds. The perfect match for it is an adaptive 8-speed automatic with a new electronic T-shaped shifter design resembling that of the Challenger or Charger. Seven driving modes are available through the SRT drive system, that adjusts a range of characteristics like shift times and torque distribution depending on driving conditions. The final destination for engine power are lightweight 20-inch aluminum wheels combined with performance tires by Pirelli. What safely brings this heavy SUV to a complete stop is a set of Brembo brakes. Tuned to produce an aggressive bellow similar to that of a Charger SRT, there is a 2.75-inch dual exhaust with nickel chrome outlets as a finishing touch. The 2018 Dodge Durango SRT comes with a stiffer suspension for improved cornering.
Now, the sportiness of the GT trim level of the 2018 Dodge Durango can be emphasized by the available Rallye Appearance Package that includes LED fog lights, performance hood with air vents and heat extractors, and redesigned front fascia. With its vented hood similar to that of the Dodge Charger Hellcat, menacing mesh grille, and a widebody stance, the new Durango SRT is a real muscle SUV.
