When one of the largest automakers rolls out a new version of its flagship car, it certainly makes some buzz in the automotive world. Especially if this automaker is BMW and its lineup-topping 7-Series luxury sedan is entering its sixth generation. And the 7-Series indeed features plenty of things worth talking about. Since its debut in 1977, the 7-Series full-size sedan has embodied BMW’s ideas of how a luxury vehicle should look like. And for 2016, it was fully redesigned to reach even higher degree of excellence and keep pace with growing competition.

The 2016 BMW 7-Series is built on a long-wheelbase (126.4 inches) platform, while the short-wheelbase variant was discontinued. It features a mature and well-rounded design, but true innovation is hidden under the vehicle’s skin. The 2016-model-year 7-Series is the first vehicle built on BMW’s new modular CLAR platform. It employs innovative carbon core technology and high-grade tensile steel as well as lightweight aluminum, which translates in almost 300-pound weight reduction compared to the outgoing model. The 7-Series also gets an air suspension that adapts to any road conditions in a split second. Additionally, there is a range of edgy technology, both new and inherited from the previous generation, including but not limited to night vision, gesture control, active steering, head-up display, and automated parking.

The 2016 BMW 7-Series is available in two trim levels, the 740i and 750i. Under the hood of the rear-wheel-drive 740i model there is a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbo engine good for 320 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic. The 750i gets power from a turbocharged 4.4-liter 445-horsepower V8. An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard. Fuel economy is estimated at 24 mpg combined for the base model and 19 mpg combined for the 750i.

One Little Tweak, but Very Happy with the Product
Lloyd® - NorthRidge™ Custom Fit Floor Mats
The mat was a good fit to the curves on the side of the trunk floor. Not perfect -- there's about 1/4" space on both sides for about half of the length of the mat. Still, If I ever have to put something wet in the trunk, I'm sure the mat will contain the liquid and protect the carpet under it. When I put the mat in the trunk, it didn't lay flat because it was sitting on top of a tab for access to the small underfloor storage area. Since the cross-hatch design eliminates edging, I was able to cut a notch in the mat, exposing the tab and leaving the mat lying perfectly flat. I'm still very happy with the fitment and how it looks.
