Product Details

ICS Titan Copper Cylinder Head Gaskets by SCE Gaskets®. Patented Integral Combustion Seals perform the function of O-ringed blocks and heads without the added machining costs. They also provide extra sealing in high combustion pressure environments where rules prohibit O-ringing. The ICS Titan features stainless steel O-ring wire inserted into the gasket body around the cylinder bore, with combustion pressure forcing the flanges against the head and block for a self-energized secondary seal.

Coolant and Oil Seals on Titan and ICS TitanTM Head Gaskets

Patented coolant and oil seals are designed to work with minimal clamp load. As seen in the section view, these seals are offset rather than stacked to accomplish two important objectives. First, the compressive load of tightening head bolts forces the seals toward the center of the annealed gasket body to form containment channels which help prevent seal blowout. Second, fully compressed coolant and oil seals lie in a single plane with the gasket body, thereby "tripping" additional clamp load to the combustion seal, allowing for increased cylinder sealing. This is true of both Titan and ICS Titan head gaskets.

Combustion Seals on ICS Titan Head Gaskets

Patented Integral Combustion Seals found only on ICS Titan head gaskets take the place of o-ringed blocks or heads, with an added benefit. The illustration shows how the solid gasket body is separated for insertion of a stainless o-ring wire. Primary combustion sealing is achieved by load concentration from the inserted wire, as in the case of an o-ringed block. In addition, the upper and lower flanges of the ICS combustion seal remain open toward the cylinder, allowing the pressure of combustion to force them against the block and head. Extreme cylinder pressure can cause the head to lift; in this case, the upper and lower flanges of the ICS seal follow the head and block, providing an additional, secondary combustion gas seal. Best of all, there is no machining required!
