The Pontiac T1000 came to the United States auto market in 1981. The car was built on the T-body platform with FR layout. The Pontiac T1000 was offered as a 3- or 5-door hatchback. The performance of the car was ensured by a 1.4L, a 1.6L or a 1.8L engine. It was fitted with a 3-, 4- or 5-speed manual transmission. The car belonged to the subcompact class. The first Pontiac T1000 had a chrome center with a black trimmed grille. The power steering option was also offered. However, in 1982, the new T1000 had the unique grille and body molding.

The Pontiac T1000 was considered as a family vehicle. It was roomy inside, but at the same time it was lightweight, its curb weight was around 1,850–2,030 lb. Nevertheless, the car couldn’t be on the market forever, and in 1987, the car left the market. The T1000 was replaced with the Pontiac LeMans.
