Off-Road Rear Bumpers

Off-Road Rear Bumpers

While off-road front bumpers lead the way and grab most of the attention, upgrading your rear bumper to get the looks and capability of a serious dirt-going machine is no less important. Our virtual shelves are stocked with off-road steel rear bumpers that will perfectly match our front off-road bumpers for a complete look, while providing the protection and ground clearance you’re looking for. Plus you’ll find step bumpers for bed access, bumpers with cut-outs and mounts for oversized spares, bumpers with integral hitches, and more.

Factory rear bumpers aren’t designed for off-roading. They’re too large, usually extend down too far, and have ends that can easily dig into the ground or other obstacles, hanging up and impeding your progress. OE bumpers also typically don’t have the strength to endure extreme off-road use. We offer off-road rear steel bumpers that have less bulk, slope inward, and feature angled corners to give you the clearance you need. And they’re made of heavy gauge steel to withstand abuse that would crumple an OE bumper.

But as you can see from the vast selection of off-road rear bumpers on this page, within those parameters there are many bumper varieties to choose from. We offer many tubular and sheet metal styles; different lengths from the stubby bumpers preferred by rock crawlers for extreme approach angles to full width bumpers; and several finishes from chip resistant powder coat to bright polished stainless steel. But regardless of which style or size you choose, most come with off-road necessities like sturdy D-ring mounts. When venturing off road, it’s only a matter of time until you get stuck, but with D-rings, you can attach tow straps, chains, or cables to your rig so you can get pulled out or you can pull a buddy out of trouble.

Like the front bumpers, our off-road rear bumpers are engineered for each specific vehicle, with features that are most beneficial to the particular application. For example, even when you’re outfitting your pickup to make it more off-road capable, you’re still going to use the truck bed for hauling camping equipment, dirt bikes or other gear, so both tubular and sheet metal bumpers for trucks are available with steps to provide bed access. Bumpers raised for ground clearance can interfere with the large diameter spares typically mounted on the tailgate of off-road SUVs, so we offer bumpers with cut-out areas so the bumper clears boulders underneath and big off-road spares on top.

Some of those big dirt meats can be so heavy that they exceed the weight limit for the tailgate mount. But you don’t have to restrict your choice of tires if you have one of our off-road bumpers with swing-out tire carrier. The bumper can handle the weight of the tire, and when you want to open the tailgate the tire carrier just swings outward. If you tow or want to enjoy the utility and extra hauling capacity of hitch-mount cargo or bike carriers, we offer bumpers with integral trailer hitches. Some off-road rear bumpers include provisions for light mounting so you can see better when backing up or hitching a trailer, and some bumpers have pre-punched holes for mounting a winch.

Rear Bumpers Reviews

I have owned this bumper for two years. It gets light duty and has performed well under those conditions. However, today I decided to use the 2" receiver to pull a small trailer (1875 lbs with a tongue wait less than 180lbs). I inserted my ball mount and the hitch pin holes don't line up! What DV8 forgets to tell you is that while the bumper fits the JK fine, it makes it impossible to use any hitch mount unless it is custom made. The problem is the standard distance from the back end (Jeep side, not trailer side) of any ball mount to the center of the hitch pin hole is a standard 2.5" for all ball mount makers. But this bumper has a receiver that is too shallow making it only 2" from the end of the hitch mount to the center of the hitch pin hole rather than the standard 2.5". That means all off-the-shelf ball mounts are unusable because the hitch point holes in the receiver and the hitch pin hole in the ball mount don't line up! The bumper is fine as long as you never want to tow anything.
