The production of the Mercury Bobcat, a rebadged version of the Ford Pinto, began in 1975 – it was the first Mercury’s subcompact car. It offered either a three-door wagon or a three-door hatchback body style. Both manual and automatic transmissions were available for customers: a four-speed and a three-speed versions respectively. Customers had a possibility to choose a 2.3L l4 or a 2.8L V6 engine which were able to produce from 88 to 98 horsepower. The Bobcat’s design was different from the Pinto’s one. A higher grille, different parking lights, bigger taillights and other features distinguished the Bobcat from the original version. The model was discontinued in 1980.
