The Mazda Motor Corporation was founded in 1920 as the Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd. In the late 1920s, the company’s focus was machine tools production. In 1931, the brand introduced its first three-wheel open truck. These vehicles were named “Mazda” after the Zoroastrian god of light, intelligence, and wisdom. The first Mazda's passenger car, the R360, appeared in 1960. In cooperation with the German company NSU, Mazda became the only Japanese manufacturer of Wankel rotary engines and started exporting its vehicles around the world. Nowadays, Mazda produces trucks, commercial vehicles, passenger cars and sports cars and is known as the fifteenth biggest car manufacturer by worldwide production volume.
