The Maserati 228I, originally sold as the Maserati 228, was an enlarged version of the Biturbo. The automobile was aimed at the automotive market of North America and designed to meet the demand for larger Maserati models than those marketed in Europe. The 228I made its official debut in 1986 and was retailed until 1992 as a grand tourer offered in 2-/5-door coupe body variants.
