Fiberglass Black Exhaust Wrap by Heatshield®. Position: Front. Color: Black. Header Coating: Painted. Black Exhaust Wrap features a proprietary black coating and holds its color longer than similar graphite-coated wraps. This heat resistant exhaust wrap reduces radiant heat damage and can lower underhood temperatures by as much as 50 percent. It can withstand continuous 1,200-degree F and intermittent 2,000-degree F temperatures. Heatshield Products Black Exhaust Wrap withstands hotter exhaust and header gas temperatures, decreases the gas density and allows the exhaust gases to exit the system faster via increased gas velocities. Increased exhaust scavenging is produced; this pulls the intake gases through the cycle faster, helping to lower intake temperatures and increase horsepower. Installation is easy: Wrap it around your exhaust pipe, using overlap to hold it in place (like a hockey stick or tennis racket grip), then use our Thermal-Tie™, hose clamps or Tie Wire™ products to secure the ends. Exhaust wrap is a thermal insulator that keeps the heat inside the header, manifold, and exhaust system. This can deliver three great benefits: lower underhood temperatures, exhaust gas leaving the system faster, and a cooler interior temperature. By wrapping exhaust pipe with an exhaust insulation you reduce how much heat can radiate from a wrapped header and exhaust tubing. You are retaining the thermal energy inside the exhaust system, this reduces the gas density. Thinner exhaust gas, improves exhaust gas velocity inside your exhaust system. This creates a scavenging effect that pulls intake gases through the system quicker, which helps to lower intake temperatures, creating more power.
For turbo applications this can help spool the turbo faster, and reduce the turbo "flutter" or chatter when pedaling the throttle. It also enables you to build boost faster, masking your launch at the starting line or out of that corner that much faster.
Tests have shown that header-pipe wrap can also lower underhood temperatures by as much as 50 percent. Lower underhood temps mean lower intake temperatures. This leads to creating even more power can also increase fuel mileage in some cases.
There is a personal comfort benefit as well. Less heat radiating from the exhaust system can significantly reduce the heat on the firewall and floorplans, resulting in less heat in the passenger compartment.
