The second-generation Pontiac Firebird hit showrooms in 1970 with bull-nose styling and four versions available. It was the sister car to the Chevrolet Camaro. The range kicked off with the base Firebird, carried on through the Firebird Esprit and Firebird Formula and topped out with the Firebird Trans Am. Engines ranged from a 3.8-liter straight six-cylinder engine up to a 7.5-liter V8. The 1974 facelift brought with it extra weight, which adversely affected performance. In 1976, the special edition Trans Am celebrated Pontiac's 50th anniversary, and became a movie star in 1977's Smokey and the Bandit. Emissions regulations continued to strangle performance, and in 1980 the 301ci engine was the biggest available. The second-generation Firebird was replaced in 1981. Haynes Manuals Pontiac Firebird manual will be the ideal guide through every stage of servicing or repairing your car.
