The seventh-generation Cadillac Eldorado was a mere two inches longer than its immediate predecessor, but its wheelbase was actually a full six inches longer, which allowed engineers to enhance cabin space. A convertible version also appeared. The car was facelifted in 1974 with new grille, new bumpers, new rear lights, and a restyled dashboard. Further tweaks occurred over the years until the eight-generation Eldorado appeared in 1979. However, the new car was much smaller than its predecessor, as were its sister cars the Buick Riviera, Cadillac De Ville, Cadillac Seville, and Oldsmobile Toronado. As a result, it sold poorly, despite having high-tech equipment such as a digital instrument option. Changes thereafter were minor, comprising mainly special editions. The car was replaced in 1985.
