In 1952, Ford decided to make the Zephyr a freestanding model. From 1951 to 1964, Ford imported both the Consul and the Zephyr into North America, but the Zephyr’s sales figures were not very high because of strong competition from better equipped, better designed, American-built rivals. Although the only version that could be found in dealerships was the 4-door saloon, convertible and estate versions were nevertheless available as conversions.
