Continental® - ContiTech™ Headlight Washer Pump

All vehicles have accessory belts that drive such components as the power steering pump, air conditioning compressor, water pump, and alternator. Some engines also have a timing belt that connects the crankshaft on the bottom of the engine to the camshaft in the cylinder head on the top. It synchronizes the movement of the engine’s valves and pistons. On many engines, this belt also drives the oil pump, water pump and balance shafts. Because of high rotational speeds, vibrations and extreme temperatures, timing belts are constantly subjected to a great deal of stress that results in wear over time. Vehicle manufacturers have established timing belt replacement intervals which should not be exceeded, as belt failure could cause valve-to-piston contact and serious engine damage.
