It includes all parts necessary for automatic brake adjustment to maintain a specified amount of running clearance between the shoes and drum ensuring predictable brake operation without excessive pedal travel.
The self-adjusting mechanism maintains the brake shoe to drum clearance, for prompt braking action. These parts can wear due to use and heat and when they fail there can be excessive brake pedal travel since the shoes have too much clearance to the drum. Premature wear to the front brake friction material can also result since these parts must now provide most of the braking force. Replace self-adjusters whenever brake shoes are replaced to ensure a complete repair and proper brake operation.
