From its humble beginnings as a small speed shop in Midway City, California, Centerforce has grown and evolved into a unique, forward-looking company it is today. Centerforce's history traces us back to the early 1980’s and Bill Hays, an outstanding hot rodder and innovator, who has made an inestimable contribution into the company's success story by his unwavering commitment to quality, performance excellence and innovative product development.

During the pioneer years of California drag racing, Bill Hays, a founder of Hays clutches and a SEMA Hall of Fame member, who had a fascination with clutches and drag racing contributed dramatically in the development of racing clutch technology. Sought to create a clutch that could hold more power, Bill Hays had to fix the inherent 'Sticking over Center' problem that occurred with existing designs while creating a legendary clutch/pressure plate system compatible for use with non-asbestos friction facings. This prominent innovation, known as the Centerforce Weighted Clutch System, received a patent.

Bill Hays subsequently invented the Centerforce Weighted Clutch System to prevent the diaphragms from sticking over center and the byproduct was increased clamp load. The legendary clutch design carried over into other lines. In 1982, the Hays family launched Midway Industries, Inc. in response to a strong demand for superior Centerforce products. The brand's patented products such as Centerforce II, Centerforce Dual Friction, Centerforce LMC, DFX Series Clutch Systems, and DYAD Drive System (DS) reflect its continuous investment in leading-edge technology and strict quality control.
