The Buick Gran Sport was a muscle car that first made its way to the road in 1965. Originally, the Gran Sport was a mid-level trim of the Buick Skylark. The Gran Sport boasted of dynamic performance perfectly combined with masculine exterior styling. At its debut, the automobile was powered by a 6.5L V8 capable of generating up to 325 hp. Two years later, the automaker launched the refreshed Gran Sport 340/350 models that were equipped with a slightly smaller engine. In 1969, the Gran Sport became also available in hardtop and convertible body configurations and was sold as the GS 400. The new model was outfitted with a robust 340-hp 6.6L V8. Another configuration of the Gran Sport known as the GS 455 rolled off the assembly line in 1970 and was outfitted with a 7.4L V8 making up to 350 hp. A high-performance Gran Sport GSX/ GSX Stage 1 model was also introduced in 1970 and boasted of impressive 400 hp total system output. The production of the Buick Gran Sport was continued until 1975.
