Cable Operated Shift Actuator by 4x4 Posi-Lok®. It has come to attention they high quality, American made product, has been "knocked off" by a cheap imitation import. 4x4 Posi-Lok replaces the thermal linear actuator with a cable operated actuator that puts the driver in control of the engagement from inside the cab. After engaging the transfer case, a one inch pull of the 4x4 Posi-Lok cable slides the shift fork and collar to connect the right front axle to the intermediate shaft and 4-wheel drive is engaged! Simply reverse the procedure to disengage 4-wheel drive. 4x4 Posi-Lok also works great with lockers! When the front axle is locked, you can disengage the passenger side in order to make turns without wheel hop.

The colder the temperature, the longer it will take to engage.

If the front differential becomes submerged, the TLA temperature will cool and the 4-wheel drive will disengage.

The TLA unit can cause excessive wear on internal components in the differential and may cause other electrical problems.

4x4 Posi-Lok Benefits

Reduces front differential wear and right axle breakage.

Provides 2-wheel drive low range, giving the vehicle 4-LO torque at the rear axle with bind free steering only available in 2-HI. This feature is not available with factory systems and is beneficial when maneuvering trailers.

Will not disengage when ignition is turned off or the differential is submerged.

Is compatible with manual or electric transfer cases and installation can be completed in one to two hours with basic hand tools. No internal differential work is required.

4X4 Posi-Lok® is a privately held company in Coldwater, MI, that was invented by Dick White in the early 1990’s. Prompted by multiple failures on his own late-model Chevy 4-wheel drive, White realized that the TLA (Thermal Linear Actuator) wasn’t engaging the right front wheel even when the transfer case was in 4LO and the 4-wheel drive dash light was on. After a careful study, White invented a cable-operated actuator to replace the failing TLA. The new system functioned flawlessly and provided a benefit that the factory design could never provide: 2-wheel drive low range. White went on to develop a Posi-Lok system for the vacuum-actuated Chevrolet/GMC T-10/15 Sonoma Pickup, Blazer, Jimmy, Dodge Ram Pickup, Jeep Wrangler YJ, Cherokee XJ, and Comanche MJ. Today, 4X4 Posi-Lok products are one of the most popular on the market since they put the control of four wheel drive back into the hands of the driver, where it should be.
